Frequently Asked Questions FAQs

1) What are the benefits of buying a New Zealand made trailer?

Buying a New Zealand made trailer has several benefits. Firstly, New Zealand made trailers are known for their high-quality construction, durability, and compliance with local safety standards. By choosing a New Zealand made trailer, you can be confident that you're investing in a product that's designed to withstand New Zealand's rugged terrain and climate and has parts and servicing available. Additionally, buying a locally made trailer supports the New Zealand economy and businesses, helping to create jobs and support local communities.

2) How do I choose the right size and type of trailer for my needs?

When choosing a New Zealand made trailer, it's important to consider the load you want to carry and the towing capacity of your vehicle. You'll need to select a trailer that's the appropriate size and weight for your towing vehicle. It's also important to consider the terrain and weather conditions you'll be traveling in, to ensure that the trailer is suitable for the conditions. Consult with a reputable trailer manufacturer or retailer, like Pinto, for guidance on choosing the right trailer for your needs.

3) What materials are commonly used in New Zealand made trailers?

New Zealand made trailers are typically made of high-quality steel, aluminium, or galvanised steel. These materials are chosen for their strength, durability, and resistance to rust and corrosion. Here at Pinto we use birch hardwood ply for our decking as this is a superior timber for the wear and tear often faced by using trailers regularly in the elements.

4) What are the maintenance requirements for a New Zealand made trailer?

Regular maintenance of a trailer is essential to ensure its longevity and safe operation. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of components such as brakes, tires, and lights. You can read more about trailer maintenance and servicing here

5) Can I customise my New Zealand made trailer?

Yes, most New Zealand made trailer manufacturers offer customisation options to meet your specific needs. This includes features such as added storage or increased deck size as well as a host of accessories such as racks and cages.

6) What is the maximum weight limit for a New Zealand made trailer?

In New Zealand, the maximum weight limit for a trailer that can be towed on a standard driver's license is 3,500 kilograms (7,716 pounds) gross combined weight, which includes the weight of the trailer and the load. However, it's important to note that this limit may vary depending on the towing vehicle's capacity. It's recommended to consult with the New Zealand Transport Agency or a reputable trailer manufacturer or retailer for more information on weight limits and towing regulations.

Towing with a campervan or motorhome

Towing with a campervan or motorhome

Exploring New Zealand’s idyllic scenery is something we all value when we get a chance. Whether it’s a weekend away up the mountain, an extended kiwi break at the beach or a tour from Bluff to Kaitaia, motorhomes offer an exciting way to see the country. Packing up your friends or family, or travelling solo, it’s a great option to be able to tow your boat, car or trailer for extra options at your destination.

There are a few important things to remember when towing with your motorhome. Firstly you need to know your towing capacity, this can be found on your towbar or in your manufacturer specifications, and this will determine the GVM of your trailer and must be considered especially for larger loads like boats. Secondly, motorhomes can often be longer and wider than your standard motor vehicle, consider your mirrors and cameras that will allow you to see your load and help you safely manoeuvre your trailer. As with all trailers, when towing you need to make wider turns and your braking distance increases when stopping. Consider planning your trip carefully and practising shorter trips and reversing your trailer before you leave. This will increase your confidence and help you understand how your motorhome and trailer move together on the road.

Here at Pinto we offer some great options for trailers that are suitable for your getaways, we are happy to discuss your needs and customise the build as needed.
